Let God Build His House
For we know that if our earthly house of this
tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with
hands, eternal in the heavens. 2Co 5:1
For he looked for a city which hath foundations,
whose builder and maker is God. Heb 11:10
We want God to build his house.
But often we also want to build it
too.
Building a house is hard work.
But building a spiritual house is
even harder.
That’s God’s domain.
He does it better than ourselves if
we let him.
But do we trust him?
Abraham did.
He didn’t face as many distractions
as we do in our day.
But I am sure even if he had existed
in our time his goal would have remained steadfast: to reach him who is true
and to dwell with him forever.
For he looked for a city which hath foundations,
whose builder and maker is God.
This world did not seduce him.
He knew its foundation was fickle.
It matters to know your foundation.
It matters to know your builder and
maker, who it is.
Yes, he sojourned in the land of
promise, but it wasn’t the physical which his mind was trained on, but the
spiritual.
He was in the world, but not of this
world.
For he looked for a city which hath foundations,
whose builder and maker is God.
He was a pilgrim and a sojourner, headed
not to the city of this world but to the city of God.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which
according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible,
and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to
be revealed in the last time. 1Pe 1:3-5
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain
from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul. 1Pe 2:11
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
Here we are mortal.
We are subject to the elements.
We groan, though still living. But we
groan for that which is better.
For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not
for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be
swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is
God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are
always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are
absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from
the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2Co 5:4-8
Does that sound superstitious?
“But I know whom I have believed,”
cried Paul.
And there ought not to be any shame
in a saint declaring what he believes.
For it is not his building or city.
It is God’s.
For we know that if our earthly house of this
tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with
hands, eternal in the heavens.
For he looked for a city which hath foundations,
whose builder and maker is God.
Abraham’s house was built by God. How
did he know? God called him. Therefore, he trusted him.
Is being called in our time the same
as in Abraham’s time?
Were the promises realized in his
lifetime?
No, but he believed, nevertheless.
Was it blind?
No, because we can see that that
those promises have come true in our time, some certainly, and we are certain
even the rest will be fulfilled.
Today we can testify that God is
true.
The earthly house may get destroyed.
The spiritual house will stand forever.
It is this body we are not ashamed
to long for.
Remember he will never leave you nor
forsake you.
He suffered that we might also
suffer.
He triumphed that we might also triumph.
“As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing.”
Sometimes life will proceed in what
seems as in contradiction. But one day everything will make sense.
So cheer up.
God can make use out of a clay.
It’s his building, not yours.
He can make anything out of it.
So count it all joy!
We frown at rest. We want to be in
action.
But the body knows her strength.
Rest. Tomorrow it will thank you.
Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:
except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. Psa 127:1-2
